We analyzed search volumes using Google keyword planner to understand the prevalence of various digital wallets from August 2022 to September 2023. The terms we focused on were:

Utilizing this data, we identified the Canadian and U.S. regions with the highest search interest for 13 prominent cashless payment options. The per capita metric refers to searches per 1,000 individuals. Each location received a ranking for every term and was assigned an index score between 0 and 1, resulting in a cumulative score out of 13.

The list extends to include North Carolina, which ranks higher than New York and Georgia, while Kansas and California come in at 14th and 15th respectively. Notably, even though Georgia holds a relatively low overall ranking, it has the highest searches per capita for ‘Afterpay’, ‘Cash App’, and ‘Apple Pay’. California, however, leads all states for ‘Amazon Pay’, and Kansas stands out for its ranking in other cashless transactions.
