During their turn, players can choose from six possible actions:
♠️ Hit
You can request an additional card to boost your hand total. This action is available at any point.
♣️ Stand
You can choose to stand, keeping your current hand total unchanged. This option is always available.
♥️ Double Down
You may double your bet and receive only one more card. Unlike traditional blackjack, in Spanish 21, you can double down regardless of the number of cards you hold.
♦️ Split
If a player receives two cards of the same rank, they can split their hand into two distinct hands. For example, if a player is dealt two eights, they can split the hand by matching their initial wager. The dealer will then separate the hands and provide a card for each, allowing the player to treat these hands like any other blackjack hand with the same options open to them.
🃏 Surrender
If you find yourself in a challenging situation, such as holding a hard 16 against a dealer showing a 9, you have the option to surrender. This allows you to recover half of your wager while relinquishing your chance to win. In Spanish 21, late surrender is also an option, meaning it can only be executed after the dealer has checked for blackjack.
This game also includes the possibility of surrendering after doubling down, an action referred to as 'double down rescue.' In this case, you reclaim half of your total bet while forfeiting your chance to win the hand.
🧐 Insurance
Should the dealer's upcard be an ace, you have the option to place an insurance bet that equals half of your initial wager. If the dealer lands a blackjack, your insurance is paid out at a rate of 2 to 1.
🤵 Match The Dealer
Certain variations of Spanish 21 may offer a side bet termed 'Match The Dealer.' In this wager, players strive to match the ranks of their initial two cards with the dealer’s visible upcard. Here’s an example of a standard paytable associated with this side bet:
